Who We Are
LoveLikeReed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit born from loss and driven by love — committed to making mental health care accessible to every child in our community.
Our Mission
"To help support the mental health of children and families in our community by providing financial assistance for counseling."
LoveLikeReed, Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Canton, Georgia, serving Cherokee County and surrounding communities. We believe that no family should be unable to access mental health care for their child because of financial barriers.
Reed's Story
Reed Allen Schonberger was born on February 20, 2003. He was a 15-year-old sophomore at Etowah High School in Cherokee County, Georgia — a cross-country runner, a devoted friend, and someone who had an extraordinary gift for making the people around him feel loved and accepted.
On December 19, 2018, Reed died by suicide. His passing shook the community deeply and left a hole in the lives of everyone who knew him.
In the months that followed, his family searched for a way to honor his memory and prevent other families from experiencing what they had been through. They founded LoveLikeReed, Inc. with a simple but powerful belief: if one more child can get the professional mental health support they need, Reed's life will continue to change lives.
Our Values
We believe in erasing the stigma that depression and anxiety carry. Mental health struggles are not a sign of weakness — they are human experiences that deserve compassionate, professional attention.
We believe every child deserves access to mental health care, regardless of their family's financial situation. And we believe that communities become stronger when we show up for one another.
"Love one another, as I have loved you, so you must love one another." — John 13:34
What We Do
We provide financial assistance for up to 5 mental health counseling sessions for children and families who meet our eligibility criteria. We work with licensed mental health professionals and partnering facilities in the area to connect families with qualified therapists.
For families with insurance, we cover the copay. For uninsured families, we cover the full session cost. Our goal is to remove every financial barrier between a child in crisis and the help they need.
Community Recognition
LoveLikeReed, Inc. has been recognized by the Service League of Cherokee County for its contributions to community mental health. We are grateful for the support of donors, volunteers, and community partners who make our work possible.
